With an overall objective to strengthen aid effectiveness in Tajikistan, the Development Coordination Council (DCC) was established to facilitate information exchange and collaboration within the development community, as well as foster dialogue on shared priorities with the Government of Tajikistan. The DCC functions as development partners’ coordination mechanism with the GoT in support of the National Development Strategy 2016-2030 and the Mid-term development Strategy 2021-2025.
The Chair of the DCC serves as the spokesperson for development partners at formal meetings with the government and is the official point of contact on general coordination matters. The heads (or in their absence, deputies) of 31 bilateral, multilateral and UN agencies comprise the Council. From February 2023 WB is the Chair and UNRC and USAID are the Deputy Chairs of DCC Tajikistan.
Since 2010, the DCC has intensified efforts to improve donor coordination and interaction with the government, working closely with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), State Committee on Investments and State Property Management (SCISPM), Executive Office of the President (EOP) and Economic Advisor to President.
Currently, financial and in-kind contribution to the DCC Secretariat is provided by the United States Agency for International Development in Tajikistan. Previously the secretariat has been generously supported by UN, WB, JICA, Swiss Cooperation office, European Union, Asian Development Bank (ADB), UK Department for International Development (DFID), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank.
