UNDP in Tajikistan UNiTEs and Raises Voices to End Violence against Women and Girls
Around 90 staff members of UNDP in Tajikistan gathered together at UN Conference hall to mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and call for action to increase awareness among all staff on acceleration of prevention, elimination and response to violence against women and girls. The meeting was organized in support of this year’s UN Secretary General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign that is held each year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
Video presentations followed by short discussion and distribution of ORANGE campaign color promotion materials, such as 2016 year pocket calendars, mugs and orange pins. To keep UNDP Tajikistan ORANGE throughout the 16 DAYS, UNDP staff members were encouraged to join the campaign by wearing orange pins every day during the 16 Days of Activism and build the community where women and girls can live free of violence.
To engage youth and reach new audiences, enthusiastic members of the UNDP Innovation Team, in partnership with Alumni of the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX), conducted a public campaign on the streets of Dushanbe to raise awareness among youth and general population of Dushanbe on acceleration of prevention, elimination and response to violence against women and girls, while bringing people’s attention to the existing problems in the country. In particular, over 100 informative campaign posters in Russian language with contact information on existing in the country crisis centers/lawyer’s offices were posted inside the mostly used public transportations (16 buses and 17 trolleybuses). Around 20 campaign information posters and 60 orange pins were distributed among the staff personnel of 8 local cafés in Dushanbe. In total with support of UNDP Tajikistan around 300 orange pins, 270 pocket calendars and 150 campaign posters were distributed among UNDP Staff members and members of UN Country Team (heads of UNFPA,UN FAO,WFP,UNICEF), FLEX Alumni Youth Association and local café personnel.
